Subin Kim, a strange romantism

She cites the photos of Lee Materazzi and the work of Sophie Calle as her inspiration in the way they both stage the most trivial parts of everyday life. But Subin Kim, a student at the London College of Fashion, designs dresses that are anything but banal … though they do borrow their aesthetic from finely quilted blankets, jacquard rugs or bedroom curtains! Infused with an odd romanticism, they show her creative, expert use of lace. The most beautiful piece? Definitely the pink Chantilly lace, tulle and silk organza dress, a model of softness and delicacy tinged with a bizarre aura between dreams and reality… The good news: working with Sophie Hallette lace and visiting our showroom changed the way she viewed this magic material. “I thought lace was a boring fashion fabric” she says, before changing her mind. “And then I realized it was a truly modern, chic fabric!”
